My story —

Catch up how
I got here

Today I’m a videographer, photographer and graphic designer. I create content for athletes, teams, brands and companies, from race days and portraits to products, campaigns and social content. Whatever the subject, I’m looking for the moment that tells the story.

I grew up racing bikes and competed at the highest youth level up to juniors. When racing stopped, creating started: I picked up a camera and launched my YouTube channel 834live, where I spend a day with professional cyclists.

Photography followed, and last year I started studying graphic design. I’m now in my second year, learning more every day.

Magazine —

Create a magazine about your favourite artist: A5, 16 + 4 pages, with a cover and masthead, a contents page and editorial pages. I chose Dave.

The cover cuts his name in big red letters through the photo. Inside, bold colour blocks, full-page portraits and big type follow his story: from Brixton and Streatham to Psychodrama, Top Boy and Stone Island.

SafeStream giveaway —

A giveaway post made for SafeStream, where one lucky winner could win a speedsuit signed by Tim Merlier, Jasper Philipsen and Jasper Stuyven.

The assignment —

Create a complete brand identity for FORM, a graphic design festival in Ghent, and pick five speakers: Mike Mills, David Carson, Jesse Nyberg, April Greiman and Neville Brody.

Most festival posters look the same: colourful, clean and made entirely on a computer. I wanted the opposite. Everything in this identity is handmade: the letters are painted by hand, the “O” is my own fingerprint, and the textures come from photos I took of walls and streets in Ghent.

One loud yellow with black and white keeps it bold and readable from far away. The logo was vectorised so it works at any size, from a phone story to a billboard.

Movie poster —

Design a movie poster for one of Quentin Tarantino’s nine films that is clear, eye-catching and stands out. I chose Django Unchained.

Most Django posters use the same red and chains. I went for a blue sky and a face built from fragments, showing Django’s different sides: from slave, to helper, to the bounty hunter he becomes at the end.

At first glance it’s simple and tells the main message. Look closer and the small details start to show.
